Cubic Trance

Trap the cubes. Climb the towers. Dance with the bosses.

A rhythm puzzle roguelite where waves of cubes roll toward you to the beat, inspired by the PlayStation classic I.Q.: Intelligent Qube.

    The game

    The floor is your life.

Blocks of cubes rise at the far end and roll toward you, row by row, to the music. Lay a trap under a cube and spring it to take it. Let a cube go over the edge and the scale tips: a row of floor crumbles under your feet. Run out of floor and you fall with it.

Each stage is a new piece of the course: paths lying flat, then towers you climb, sometimes two faces at once round a corner. Between stages you pick cards and build the kit that will carry you to the bosses.

    • 9kinds of cubes
    • 15+upgrade cards
    • 22D&B tracks

    How it plays

    Five things to know

A green blast on a neon path

    Trap the cubes

Lay a mine, wait for a cube to roll onto it, fire. Take a green cube and its trap blows a whole area at once.

A black cube rolling down a neon tower

    Never take a black cube

Black cubes must roll off the edge. Take one and the floor pays for it.

The climber on a tower wall

    Climb the towers

Paths turn into towers. Hang on the wall, dodge the cubes, and cross the corner when two faces roll at once.

    Choosing a card between stages

    Build your kit

Wider blasts, extra mines, lives, guardian angels and new power cubes. Every run deals a different hand.

    Boss 1, the DJ

    Dance with the bosses

Against a boss the cubes dance to its song: steps forward, steps back, feints and swaps right on the beat.

    Know your cubes

    Nine cubes, nine rules

    Plain

Take it. Let it fall and the scale fills up.

    Green

Leaves a trap that takes a whole area when you set it off.

    Black

Never take it. It costs you a row of floor.

    Red

Sweeps its whole column, black cubes included, at no cost.

    Yellow

Slows the beat for a few seconds.

    Blue

    Gives rows of floor back.

    Magenta

The red beam turned sideways: sweeps its row.

    Cyan

Turns the rolling cubes into ghosts you take just by touching them.

    Violet

Pushes the whole wave one row back.

    White

Lightning: takes every cube on the track but the black ones.

    Along the course

The cubes dance to their song

Boss 1, the DJ, a head of cubes over the dance floor

    BOSS 1

    The DJ

A head of cubes at the turntables. Its cubes dance to the beat and won't wait for your traps.

Boss 2, the ballerina, splitting the floor apart

    BOSS 2

    The Ballerina

A black swan of porcelain cubes, dancing in the rain. Watch where you step.

    BOSS 3+

    ???

Something is watching from beyond the void.

    Is there a free demo?

Yes: the course up to the second boss, out now on itch.io and coming soon to Steam.

Can I play with a controller?

Yes, the game is made for one. Keyboard and mouse work too, and every control can be rebound.

No. Online is only for the world ranking.

It runs slowly on my computer.

The first launch measures your machine and picks a lighter look if it needs to. If it still stutters, write to us with your graphics card.
